A Call to Arms? Faculty and Staff Perceptions of on Campus Victimization

Abstract

Many studies have indicated that students acknowledge the potential for violent victimization to occur on college campuses (Schildkraut, Elsass, and Stafford, 2015; Kaminski, Koons-Witt, Thompson and Weiss, 2010). Also, this fear of victimization has been shown to impact the behavior of students (Kaminski et al., 2010). This research examines the perceptions of faculty and staff regarding fear of violent victimization on campus. Specifically, faculty and staff are surveyed concerning fear and opinions of mass shootings on college campuses and the extent to which this has impacted their behavior. Additionally, the effect of moral panic will be studied.
