Biological Father Household Presence and Self-Control: An Emprical Examination of the Evolutionary Socialization Hypothesis

Thu, Nov 17, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Hilton, St. James Ballroom, 3rd Level

Abstract

The evolutionary socialization hypothesis views biological father household presence as inhibiting the initiation of short-term mating strategies, specifically aggressive, violent behaviors in males and sexual promiscuity in females. This study isolates the effects of biological father and mother household presence on the development of self-control. Data from the National Youth Survey (n=1725) will be used to examine gender-specific hypotheses.
