The proposed study will examine the social, political, economic, and moral fallout of recent calls (calls by the Mr. Akrasi Sarpong, the Executive Secretary of Ghana’s Narcotic Control Board {NACOB}, and Mr. Kofi Anna, the ex-UN Secretary General and some prominent Ghanaians; as well as debates in the Ghanaian media to legalize marijuana cultivation, sale and use in Ghana. Also examined would be the extent which foreign nationals may be involved in the cultivation of marijuana in Ghana. Finally, the study will investigate which regions of Ghana cultivate the highest volume of marijuana, and who among the genders/sexes may be involved in the cultivation, sale and use of this drug. This will be accomplished via interviews, archival search and review of existing laws and drug policies in Ghana, as well as international drug policies and conventions.
