Surveying the World in a Semester: A Comparative Study of Public Defender Effectiveness

Abstract

This presentation will highlight the conclusions of a student project team that analyzed public defender systems in Asia, Europe, Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa. Rather than strictly focus on changes needed in the law on the books, team members looked at resource constraints, the underlying legal culture, and the role played by other institutional actors.
