Race as a Factor in Juvenile Arrests

Thu, Nov 17, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Hilton, Fulton, 3rd Level

Abstract

This presentation explores the effect of race on the decision of police to arrest a youth. Using 2013 data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI’s) National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), we will explore the characteristics of violent crimes by juvenile offenders. Next, we examine what characteristics are predictive of arrest, focusing specifically on the race/ethnicity of the offender.
