The police culture is not monolithic nor static in nature; rather, it evolves within an organizational climate. Although much research explores characteristics of the culture, there is very little that examines the dynamics of the interaction patterns, values, norms, in a police agency with approximately 50 sworn officers. Using survey, interview, and over 300 hours of patrol ride along observational data, this study investigates the ways in which discord in the patrol police culture is co-produced within the organizational climate. The findings suggest the socialization process extends beyond viewing administrators as outsiders to the patrol culture but more in line with symbolic assailants. The implication for police executives to implement organizational change, enhance performance efficiency, and foster teamwork across rank and duty assignment, is considering the distinctive elements of a small police agency culture.
