Preventing Sexual Assault on Campus: Understanding Attitudes Towards Affirmative Consent Policies

Wed, Nov 16, 3:30 to 4:50pm, Hilton, Chequers, 2nd Level

Abstract

In an effort to help prevent sexual assaults on campus, some universities have begun to institute Affirmative Consent Policies. These policies, also known as "yes means yes," create a standard that requires affirmative, conscious, and voluntary agreement to engage in sexual activity. This study surveys college students (the target demographic for these policies) regarding attitudes towards the implementation and perceived potential effectiveness of instituting affirmative consent policies.
