Engaging College Men in Anti-Violence Work

Abstract

Almost since the inception of the anti-violence against women movement men have been excluded from the conversation. Men were seen only as perpetrators and potential perpetrators. The only role they had was “don’t rape”. This attitude alienated many would be male allies. With the rise of organizations like Men Can Stop Rape, men have been given the opportunity to prevent violence against women and be social change agents. Programs that engage college men in anti-violence work are examined for effectiveness in preparing to prevent violence they witness and changes in rape supportive attitudes. Effective strategies in work with men to end violence against women are identified.
