Becoming ‘Smarter’ About Individuals Who Sexually Offend: Research Collaborations between NIJ and the SMART Office

Thu, Nov 17, 12:30 to 1:50pm, Hilton, Quarterdeck A, Riverside Complex

Abstract

In collaboration with the SMART Office, NIJ is supporting three multi-year evaluations that aim to add the current sex offender literature in important ways. The first will develop an actuarial risk assessment instrument that aims to predict the risk of sexual offending behavior among at-risk youth. The second will rigorously test the implementation of the Sex Offender Treatment Intervention Progress Scale (SOTIPS), a dynamic risk assessment tool, two geographically and demographically diverse sites. And, the third will conduct a comprehensive national assessment of the information sharing functions of sex offender registration and notification (SORN) systems. The presentation will provide project updates.
