Correlates of Dating Partner Violence Offending and Victimization Across Nations

Abstract

Dating violence is a common research topic in the fields of criminology and criminal justice. Despite the vast amount of existing research, few studies are conducted in a cross-cultural context. The current study aims to address this gap by examining multilevel correlates of dating partner violence. Specifically, by analyzing International Dating Violence Study (2001-2006), the effects of cultural factors, including social desirability and social integration, on the perpetration and the victimization of dating violence are assessed in addition to individual-level variables. This secondary dataset contains information of more than 14,000 college students from 68 institutions in 32 nations. Findings from this study provide important implications for campus security and intervention and educational programs.
