In the last five years there has been a heightened increase in young black activists organizing and protesting perceived injustice, bias, and corruption in the criminal legal system as well as specifically police violence against unarmed citizens. During protests, these activists are often met with hostility, verbal abuse, and violence. Through semi structured interviews these activists are asked to share the methods they use for self-care in these emotionally draining environments and tactics they use to avoid “burnout.” Preliminary results will be discussed.
