The New Haven CT Smart Policing Initiative

Abstract

Under a Smart Policing Initiative grant award the New Haven CT Department of Police Service adopted a four-pillared, data-driven plan to address persistent violent crime in the Newhallville neighborhood. This paper outlines the elements of the Newhallville SPI project plan, summarizes the results from the field, discusses the challenges – both organizational and operational – faced during the planning and implementation phases, and reviews lessons learned for future projects.
