There are emerging concerns with respect to mental health and drug use for justice system involved individuals. These concerns are particularly apparent in some recent events (i.e., the Euless, Texas events). This paper highlights the importance of using mixed methods approaches to better understand the intersections of drug use, mental illness, and justice system involvement. Concerns with racial disparities are highlighted, and recommendations for future research in this area are provided.
