Disproportionate Minority Contact Involving Native Americans

Fri, Nov 18, 8:00 to 9:20am, Hilton, Quarterdeck C, Riverside Complex

Abstract

The overrepresentation of minority youth in the juvenile justice system is a topic of concern in criminology. Here, we examine the disproportionate minority contact involving Native Americans in Montana’s juvenile justice systems. Using data from five counties in Montana, we examine the role of race in the likelihood of being adjudicated delinquent. We employ logistic regression and propensity score matching to determine the impact of race on delinquency findings.
