here is a crisis in American race relations driven by police shootings in minority communities. Attorney General Loretta Lynch said that “we face the serious erosion of trust in the police ( and that) police officers had engaged in the use of excessive force (including deadly force) and engaged in unlawful searches and arrests – and other patterns of “discriminatory policing”. At John Jay College , with over 3000 undergraduate students preparing to enter careers in law enforcement and corrections, we are now exploring these issues with our students as part of their curriculum and research training. In our new program From Punishment to Public Health (P2PH ) we address The Changing Culture of Policing in America . We are currently surveying these students about their perceptions of these current issues of policing.
