Wed, Nov 16, 5:00 to 6:20pm, Hilton, Quarterdeck A, Riverside Complex

Abstract

The paper presents results of a research carried out between the years 2012 and 2015 in comparative perspective. It investigates projects implemented in six capital cities in Brazil and Argentina. The analysis focused on the design, scope and operational dimensions of community policing initiatives implemented in peripheral or favela areas and it drew special attention to the territorial cooperation mechanisms among various public agencies and the community actors. The conclusions point to the existing designs, and to significant difficulties as well as to successful strategies to cope with the limitations encountered. The research was founded by Brazilian agencies Fapemig and Ipea.
