Studying Crime and Justice in India

Abstract

Over the past few decades, there has been an increased interest in Criminology and Criminal Justice system within the Indian context. Subsequently, many scholars (both national/international) have presented relevant research at various conferences and such efforts have also resulted in many collaborative publications. This led many of us to believe that perhaps there is a need to create an organization to bring together members who pursue and/or have an interest in developing scholarly, scientific, empirical and/or theoretical body of research related to CJ in the Indian context. The founding group has consulted extensively, and aims to formalize the organization, namely, "The Indian Society of Crime and Justice" at ASC 2016. We also seek inputs, support and membership from the extended ASC members and would like for you to join us at this founding meeting where we will formally adopt the constitution, assign officers, and discuss the broad goals of this organization. The purpose is to bring together academicians, researchers, practitioners, policy-makers, and related others actively engaged in India-related research, teaching, and practice on issues of crime and justice.
