Much controversy surrounds the sentencing of juvenile offenders as adults. While there are obvious implications to housing youth in correctional facilities meant for adults, this study examines other, extralegal, factors. Analyzing both the relationship between sentence and offense, as well as offense and age at time of admission, the current study controls for race, gender and education level. This study speaks to the racial disparities involved in sentencing juveniles to adult facilities.
