The Influence of Comorbidity of Smoking, Drinking and Game Usage on Adolescents‘ Social Relations in Korean High School

Abstract

Since many prior research primarily focused on individual status delinquency, there is a natural lack of research on comorbidity of status delinquency. In this regard, this study explores the influence of comorbidity of smoking, drinking and game usage on adolescents‘ social relations in Korean high school. This study utilized multiple regression analyses of the 4th wave data (1st grade in high school) from the Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey administered by the National Youth Policy Institute. The total number of participants consisted of 2,351 students. The primary results of this study were as follows: First, smoking, drinking, and game usage respectively were not associated with social relations among Korean high school students. Second, comorbidity in status delinquency impacted social relations negatively among high school students. Findings have implications for future research and practice by highlighting the importance of adolescents' social relations in developing intervention programs for reducing adolescents' status delinquency.
