Persistent Delinquent Offenders: Understanding the Impact of Family

Abstract

This particular study thrives to explain the impact of the family on the persistent delinquency among a sample of Turkish youth. Usually; SES, criminal history, abuse/neglect, poor relation to the child, single-headedness are commonly referred family-related risk factors for delinquent behavior among youth. Based on the court data, a group of persistent offenders (with 3 or more delinquent offenses) are compared with one-time offenders from the same sampling frame to understand the impact of these variables. Controlling for the demographic factors and the type of delinquency; aforementioned variables are determined to be affecting persistent offending trajectory in the study sample. Several policy implications as well as further research recommendations are discussed conclusively within this study.
