This study examines the role of labeling prisoners as executed even after death. Specifically the study examines the utilization of an X, EX or prison number starting with 999 to denote if a prisoner buried in the largest prison cemetery in the United States was executed. Findings are presented in the historical context of symbolism in cemeteries.
