Thu, Nov 17, 6:00 to 7:00pm, Hilton, Grand Ballroom A, 1st Level

Abstract

The UCR has been put to great use in macro-level studies that seek to determine covariates of property and violent crime. The NIBRS database provides an opportunity to test the impact of county-level drug rates on these models. Incidence of drugs possession are added to overall crime rates and tested against traditional measures of poverty, income inequality, and urbanity to determine how the introduction of drugs impacts these models. Preliminary findings suggest the addition of drugs impact the urbanity's relationship with crime.
