Strategies for Improving the Quality and Utilization of the Blueprints Registry

Abstract

Recent reviews of the quality and utilization of evidence-based registries indicate that key decision makers do not use these registries in any systematic fashion when selecting programs to implement, that the rating systems on registries that distinguish between levels of evidence for a program’s effectiveness are not understood, and that the kinds of information desired by decision makers is not available on registries. In response to these findings, the Blueprints for Healthy Youth Development Registry has proposed a number of modifications to their website to address these limitations. These modifications are described and offered as talking points for discussion. In addition, the differences in ratings across registries for a given program is a source of confusion for users. Resolution of this problem requires some coordination of ratings across registries or better descriptions of ratings that can facilitate meaningful comparisons of ratings across registries. Some suggestions for addressing this problem are proposed as points for discussion between registries represented on the Roundtable.
