The Influence of Employment on Recidivism: A Case Study of a Local Probation Department

Thu, Nov 17, 7:15 to 8:15pm, Hilton, Grand Ballroom A, 1st Level

Abstract

There is an increasing need to understand and improve rates of recidivism in all fields associated with the Criminal Justice system. Using five years of data from a local probation department, this research attempts to investigate the influence that employment has on probationer recidivism. In doing so, it examines the effect of multiple employment measures on recidivism while also controlling for theoretically relevant factors associated with recidivism. The findings of this analysis have important implications for local probation practices.
