The Juvenile Justice System in New York: Policy, Practice, and Rehabilitation Therapy

Wed, Nov 16, 11:00am to 12:20pm, Hilton, Warwick, 3rd Level

Abstract

Research suggests that effective practices can be found in both the Boot Camp Model and the Sanctuary Model. The Boot Camp Model is successful at creating a positive environment for youth, yet lacks the incorporation of effective therapy, the primary focus of the Sanctuary Model. Interviews were conducted with OCFS staff regarding the questions of therapy and detention. Research also suggests that greater attention and resources be put into aftercare and reentry program to lower recidivism rates.
