Prior research on “Scared Straight” programs suggest chronic delinquent juveniles are not affected by one-day programs and cause distractions which ruin the process for juveniles who can be influenced. Using Social Field Theory framing, characteristics have been created to screen out those juveniles the programs is not designed for, thus resulting in positive changes in the selected groups. This framework proposes the introduction of an at-risk juvenile program that incorporates parents and provides a view of consequences for bad behavior combined with positive interactions with law enforcement to discourage delinquency and influence positive behavior changes.
