An Analysis of the Labeling of Domestic and International Terrorists and their Integration into Society

Abstract

There is a large body of literature analyzing terrorism and radicalization, both domestically and internationally. However, there are not enough case studies examining precise information of the individuals and organizations. Based on an analysis of six case studies, my research questions will examine why only certain people and groups are labeled as terrorists. Furthermore, this analysis will also study whether or not those who are involved in terrorist groups are integrated into the society in which they live. My study will use integrated theory in order to explain the complex phenomena of terrorism and radicalization. This roundtable will discuss if there is a difference between domestic and international organizations and whether or not this influences labels of terrorism. The case study method will include an in-depth examination of each group, including the identities of the terrorists, the victims of the terrorists, and the cultural and geographical variations of each individual or group. Finally, my analysis will also discuss the future of research for terrorism and radicalization case studies and potential issues with the case study approach.
