Workplace Hotspots: Normalcy of Deviance in the Restaurant

Abstract

Based upon several years of participant observation as a bartender/server in the restaurant, this study examines various forms of deviance normally occurring in distinct micro-ecological zones of the workplace. Multiple social roles played out within the restaurant are influenced by situational and structural factors. Participant observation is augmented by retrospective auto-ethnography.
