Using data from the Survey of Inmates in State and Federal Correctional Facilities (2004), the current study explores the role and receipt of social support in the lives of male prisoners, making comparisons across various age categories. In addition, this study examines how the amount of social support may vary based on a host of legal and extra-legal characteristics of the offender. Finally, comparisons are made between the findings of the present study to similar research on female offenders completely by the authors.
