Good Guy with a Gun? An Analysis of Residents Near Active Shooter Incidents

Fri, Nov 18, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Hilton, Norwich, 3rd Level

Abstract

Active shooter incidents have become a pervasive and perplexing issue in American life. The question I will address is whether individuals living near active shooter incidents are disproportionately in favor of gun reform, and if they experience disproportionately high fear of crime. Using the FBI's active shooter incidents report detailing 160 events between 2000 and 2013, combined with the General Social Survey, I will examine whether active shooter events influence individuals’ political leanings on gun reform issues, and their fear of victimization.
