Understanding the Factors of Cyberbullying Offending and Victimization

Thu, Nov 17, 7:15 to 8:15pm, Hilton, Grand Ballroom A, 1st Level

Abstract

The study provides a different perspective on offending and victimization in the cyberbullying context. Following previous research on other forms of cybercrime the research applied opportunity theory, traditionally used to explain direct contact predatory crime, to the cyberbullying which occurs in the digital realm. Finally, the research explored the combination of digital environmental factors, individual impulsivity, and low self-control to better explain cyberbullying and cyberbully victimization.
