Following a January 6 Executive Order by Gov. Jay Inslee, multiple Washington agencies came together to address firearm fatalities in the state. Their approach combined data collection on firearm injuries and fatalities, an examination of relevant statutes, a gap analysis of background checks, and the implementation of a suicide prevention plan. This presentation focuses on the results of this effort, detailing each of the four main components. Areas of discussion include methods of engaging stakeholders and the benefits of collaboration between criminal justice and public health agencies.
