Exploring the Prevalence and Frequency of Sexting Among a Diverse College Sample

Abstract

Sexting among teens and young adults has recently become a topic of significant popular interest. Despite attention to the issue, our understanding of involvement in sexting is based on a body of research that is as limited as it is varied. The current study seeks to fill this void by assessing the prevalence of and frequency with which college students send and receive sexts. To do so, we will randomly sample undergraduate students at one of the most diverse universities in the country Ultimately, our findings will add deeper insight into how normative sexting is among young adults, as well as how involvement varies across race/ethnicity and gender. The findings and policy implications of the study will be discussed.
