An Examination of Officer Perceptions of Body-Worn Cameras

Abstract

In light of an increase in media attention on law enforcement and negative public perceptions of law enforcement, departments across the country have started implementing body-worn cameras. A growing number of Iowa law enforcement agencies currently use body-worn cameras. This study focuses on two Iowa law enforcement agencies to examine officer perceptions of and personal satisfaction with body-worn cameras. Department A is a rural law enforcement agency that implemented body-worn cameras in spring 2016. Department B is an urban law enforcement agency that implemented body-worn cameras in summer 2015.
