Dead Girl Town: Exploring Televised Femicide and Pessimism

Thu, Nov 17, 6:00 to 7:00pm, Hilton, Grand Ballroom A, 1st Level

Abstract

Crime continues to be a popular form of entertainment; murder and violence remain major attractions. The use of a female victim, or Dead Girl, as a medium to explore violence and ontological themes is standard. Drawing on research in media studies and informed by philosophical pessimism, this research explores the use of such tropes in recent popular television crime drama series, in particular the reliance on the use of the Dead Girl as a locus for trauma, murder, and crime on television.
