Thu, Nov 17, 8:00 to 9:20am, Hilton, Newberry, 3rd Level

Abstract

A discussion about violence and violence prevention which looks at over arching global approaches by the World Health Organization, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and various other national entities in different countries around the world. The goal is to examine approaches need to be adapted in the systematic study of violence given the serious international interest in the topic and call for action. Where and how do the fields of criminology and criminal justice intersect with other disciplines to inform one of the most pressing concerns of our times? How do we strengthen criminological theories related to violence? What do these theories inform us about violence prevention? How do we move the agenda of the criminology and criminal justice field from theoretical to translational; from ideas to policies, practical application and implementation?
