Many prior studies have focused on public perceptions of crime and the various causes and correlates of those perceptions. The vast majority of this past research focuses on traditional street and/or violent crime. Perceptions of crime have been linked to neighborhood experience with crime and media consumption, among other factors. Art crime is often glamorized and sensationalized in popular media, which may impact public perceptions of its seriousness and impact. The current study examines perceptions of art crime among a sample of individuals with interests in art or crime to determine if background and media consumption impact views.
