Gunfire, neighborhoods and fear of crime in New York City: Findings from the Crime & Drugs in My Neighborhood Study, 2012-2015

Abstract

This poster examines the issue of guns in New York City and what residents of various neighborhoods say about hearing gunfire, the number of people they know who own guns, and how fast they say that they could get one. The analysis of more than 10,000 surveys and 2,800+ in-depth interviews with New York City residents that were collected by students at the City John Jay College (JJC-CUNY) and the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC-CUNY) between 2012-2015 analyzes the self-reported attitudes, orientations and experiences of people from different neighborhoods who experience guns and gun violence in their everyday lives.
