What do Drug Dealers, Drug Users and “Perpetrators of Crime” Say about How NYC Neighborhoods are Changing: Findings from the Crime & Drugs in My Neighborhood Study, 2012-2015

Abstract

This poster draws on data from more than 750 in-depth interviews with “drug dealers,” “drug users” and “perpetrators of crime” that were conducted between 2012-2015 by students at John Jay College (JJC-CUNY) and the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC-CUNY). Anonymous family members, friends and associates who students said matched these attributes, were asked about changes in their neighborhoods with regard to crime and drugs over the last several years. The findings reported here describe the demographics of these groups and outlines the major themes that emerge from their narratives.
