Current Issues in Suicide Terrorism

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the issues of suicide terrorism in the context of national security. It provides an overview of suicide terrorism as a tactic of asymmetrical warfare, the causal factors that lay the foundational groundwork for why one might become a suicide terrorist or bomber and what countermeasures are in place to stop such attacks. It addresses conflicting research, problem areas and gaps in the literature, the lack of methodologically sound research in the field, and directions for future research. While multiple countermeasures have been implemented around the world, findings of this paper indicate a severe lack of testing on the effectiveness of these measures.
