Schitzoville: Polarized Views about Crime, Drugs and Quality of Life in NYC Neighborhoods

Thu, Nov 17, 7:15 to 8:15pm, Hilton, Grand Ballroom A, 1st Level

Abstract

Some see the city as alive, vibrant and a wonderful place to live, others not so much. This paper examines people who lie at polar extremes in their opinions about crime, drugs and quality of life in neighborhoods. Of particular interest for this analysis are those people who live in the same neighborhood, but who hold diametrically opposing views about these issues. The analysis will examine the intersection of attributes like race, gender, education, income and longevity in the neighborhood that may help understand and contextualize these differences in outlook and orientation to life in the city.
