Dazed and Confused: A Qualitative Analysis of Substance Abuse Patterns Among a Sample of Male and Female Jail Inmates

Abstract

In this exploratory study, we conducted unstructured, face-to-face interviews with a convenience sample of male and female inmates within a medium-sized jail facility in Southeast Texas. We specifically asked respondents open-ended questions related to their sobriety or lack thereof. Respondents candidly discussed how drugs and alcohol have impacted their lives as well as their hopes for the future.
