Social Disorganization and Robbery in Arkansas

Abstract

Elements of Social Disorganization may explain much of the variation in robbery rates throughout the state of Arkansas. All seventy-five counties were analyzed in this three year data set from 2010 to 2013. A two-model regression analysis was initiated, the independent variable was the log transformed robbery rate. The independent variable, racial and ethnic heterogeneity, was included in the first model while a residential mobility variable was added in for the second. While racial and ethnic heterogeneity in model one did produce an Adjusted R Squared of .487 with a significant F change (p =.000), model two, which included residential mobility, produced an Adjusted R Squared of .641 also with a significant F change (p =.000). Social Disorganization variables, in this instance explain over 64 percent of the variation in log transformed robbery rates across all counties in Arkansas.
