Abstract

This panel focuses on how correctional and treatment staff in prisons, probation offices, and parole offices respond to women offenders. Topics include response to sexual assault, gender differences in focus of attention, and features of offender-staff interactions and programs that are related to outcomes. A critical analysis is provided of both effective and just practices across these settings as well as ineffective and unjust practices. The nature and results of various responses to women offenders is considered in relation to gendered needs and practices.
