Abstract

Historically, women have faced challenges in trying to advance within policing. Male officers have long resisted women joining police organizations. Despite this resistance, women still become and remain as police officers. These three papers examine the context in which female officers work including: their representation, perception by the public and rise to leadership positions within police organizations.
