Session Submission Summary

Roundtable: Twenty-First Century Police Training Academy Curriculum

Sat, Nov 19, 9:30 to 10:50am, Hilton, Norwich, 3rd Level

Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session

Abstract

Most police academy training curriculum is outdated and based on twenty-five year old terminal objectives. Providing our police officers with the proper tools to do their jobs does not only consist of guns, Tasers, body cameras, and technologically advanced equipment. Policing today is not the same as it was twenty years ago. If we are going to provide them with the proper tools to do their job, this must first start with their academy training. This roundtable discussion hopes to elicit from practitioners and academics what this new-age police academy training should look like and consist of.
