Advances in Sex Offense Policy Research: Law Enforcement Uses of Sex Offender Registration Systems

Thu, Nov 17, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Hilton, Port, Riverside Complex

Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel

Abstract

Over the past quarter century, sex offender registration and notification (SORN) policies systems have assumed an increasingly prominent place in contemporary sex offender management policy and practice. Although SORN policies have been the focus of dozens of research studies, there remains a dearth of applied research examining the ways in which SORN systems are implemented and utilized by criminal justice agencies and practitioners. This panel features a series of presentations examining SORN systems and their broader role in community-based sex offender management, and will aim to promote a dialogue surrounding the state and future of SORN-related research.
