Abstract

Juvenile court and school responses to delinquency may impact the academic and behavioral success of delinquent youth. This panel explores this topic through four presentations that focus on the nexus of the education system and the juvenile court as it relates to youth outcomes. First, we will discuss lessons learned from an ongoing partnership between a school district and the juvenile court. Second, the logic and theory behind school-based delinquency interventions will be presented. Third, we will explore how the labeling effects of arrest might differ for youth arrested in school compared to youth arrested in the community. Finally, we will focus on whether certain school-level characteristics are more, or less, likely to contribute to the school to prison pipeline.
