Wed, Nov 16, 5:00 to 6:20pm, Hilton, Grand Salon 12, 1st Level

Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel

Abstract

This panel reports on three efforts which are focused on enhancing the effectiveness of the juvenile justice system in a Midwestern state. First, an initiative targeted to divert or enhance services for crossover youth (youth with cases in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems) will be presented. Second, the motivations and predictors of habitual versus one-time probation runaways in a large metropolitan city will be examined. Third, the implementation of a statewide evaluation effort for juvenile justice programs will be discussed. All presentations will focus on the challenges of each program, policy considerations, and recommendations for enhancing services.
