Investigations of School Crime Across Multiple Data Sources

Abstract

This panel uses different nationally representative data sources to explore various aspects of school crime. The first paper compares and contrasts the prevalence, predictors, and consequences of interpersonal bullying and cyberbullying victimization in schools. The second paper explores the trends, effectiveness, and consequences of the current use of restrictive security practices and procedures in schools. The third paper examines whether student involvement in extracurricular activities is a protective or aggravating factor in the prediction of deviant and delinquent activities. Finally, the fourth paper explores the importance of clarity of school rules and fairness of rule enforcement through a school legitimacy lens.
